In 2014, Thomas Stallworth concluded four years of service in the state legislature during which he was an unprecedented leader through historic challenges such as Detroit's bankruptcy and the Grand Bargain as well as in bi-partisan leadership as the Chair of the Detroit Caucus and Legislative Black Caucus (the first to ever hold both Chair positions simultaneously).
Listen to Stallworth's farewell address where he shares some of the values and history that has informed his leadership. He also underscores his commitment to public health, education, employment opportunities and "a level playing field where every child and every family has an equal opportunity for a full and rewarding life."
Finally, he urges the current and future leaders of the legislature to be vigilant in addressing childhood lead, closing the school to prison pipeline, increasing job training opportunities and ensuring families' access to health care. As Stallworth transitioned into the next phase of his career, he has kept these focuses and commitments as an advisor to leading employers in the state as well as to the policy makers who have come after him and by leading critical projects such as the COVID 19 Racial Disparities Task Force.
